Dr. Kurt Kavanaugh is a Proud Partner of Smiles Change Lives

At Kurt Kavanaugh Orthodontics, we believe in providing more than orthodontic services to patients in Kansas City & Sedalia, MO. We are passionate about being involved in local charities and giving back to our community. That’s why Dr. Kurt Kavanaugh is partnered with Smiles Change Lives, a program through which he provides braces and other orthodontic treatments to children who would not otherwise have access to it.

What is Smiles Change Lives?

Smiles Change Lives is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making orthodontic care available to as many children in the United States as possible, regardless of their socioeconomic status. The program’s goal is to make sure that no child who needs orthodontic treatment is left without it.

Founded in 1997 as the Virginia Brown Community Orthodontic Partnership, Smiles Change Lives was started in our very own Kansas City by Mrs. Virginia Brown. Mrs. Brown grew up during the Great Depression, and though she desperately needed orthodontic care, she was unable to receive any treatment until she was in high school. This experience touched her deeply, and she vowed that she would help children gain access to orthodontic treatment so that they could have the smiles of their dreams.

Over the last three decades, Smiles Change Lives has evolved from one woman’s dream into a nationwide nonprofit organization. Thousands of children across the United States have received beautiful smiles and renewed self-esteem. Today, more than 700 orthodontists nationwide are partnered with Smiles Change Lives to give these children the happy, healthy smiles they deserve. Through this amazing organization, Kurt Kavanaugh Orthodontics provides orthodontic treatment to several patients a year in both our Kansas City and Sedalia offices.
